With four kids under seven running around my house, you can imagine what my floors look like. Fortunately, my husband is a little obsessed with keeping it clean, which at times can take up more time and energy than he has to spare. I’ve heard really awesome things about the iRobot Scooba floor cleaning robots, so when I was given the chance to try out the new 390, we were both pretty excited.
As the designated floor cleaner in our house, my husband set up
“Sudz” as it was affectionately named by my kids–if you’ve ever owned a robotic vaccum you know you have to name it!
Let’s just say, I’ll have to pry it from my husband’s cold dead hands before he’d give it up. Here’s why.

Thankfully, the new iRobot Scooba 390
is extremely intuitive because the instructions are a bit complicated; we finally just tossed them
aside and followed the helpful, smart labeling and color coding system.
You simply lift out the fill compartment to add water, then decide
whether you want to add cleaning liquid or just use water. Once
you’re ready, you pop it back in, start it up, and walk away, without
any pre-clean vacuuming required.
Did you catch that? No pre-vacuuming!
After the first use, we were super impressed
with how clean our floors were, and how quiet the Scooba 390 is while
it’s working. And we love how the clean and dirty water is clearly
labeled. Awesome. But depending on the size and shape
of your room, you’ll want to set up the battery powered virtual wall,
which will ensure your Scooba only cleans in the designated room and
doesn’t wander off.
It’s definitely important to keep in mind that
while the unit does sweep the floor itself prior to cleaning, it’s not going
to pick up gargantuan dust bunnies or whole croutons. I’d recommend
doing a quick sweep to maximize your results. And you can’t expect it
to clean up heavy duty dirt and grime; so if you’ve got dried baby food
stuck in a corner, you’re probably going to have to resort to a
little human elbow grease. However, if you use the Scooba on a regular basis,
you won’t have to worry about that too much anymore. Sweet!
Also, while
the Scooba does a fabulous job of navigating around corners and edges in
a slightly haphazard pattern (hey, whatever works), I’d definitely
recommend moving what obstacles you can out of its way the same way you would if you were mopping; my husband puts our
kitchen chairs up on the table while Sudz is doing his job.
Overall,
we were super impressed with how easy and effective the Scooba 390 is
at cleaning floors, and really, we can’t really imagine not having it,
especially in a house full of kids. And all this coming from a super
particular clean floor obsessed dad who has been known to clean the
floor with a spray bottle and paper towels on his hands and knees.

This would be so helpful to us! My husband and 5yo can certainly track in the dirt, and with 2 working parents, and me being pregnant, it’s hard to keep up!
I also have a clean obsessed husband and we have a 14 month old son that has made a game out of crushing his snacks on the floor and drinking milk out of his silly cup and then spitting it back out on the floor! I have been wanting this thing forever. It’s just not very cheap. I hear it works wonders though and with two kids, one of which is the messiest eater you’ve ever seen, I totally need this to help my sanity stay in check.
Ooooh, we love our Roomba and have been coveting a Scooba for a long time! This would be great in a couple ways:
1) Our main floor is all hardwood/tile, and is where most of our time is spent – 2 adults & 5 kids 5yo and under. The youngest are 2-month-old twins, so we have almost no time to clean the floors.
2) We’d love to try this on the floors in my husband’s brewery (it’s a 1-man operation), in the hopes that he can spend less time cleaning out there and more time with the family.

Oh this is amazing! I would love to win this. I have 4 kids (10, 8, 5 and 2), a cat and a husband (who can be very icky, LOL). That alone means I need this (not to negate the others), but I also homeschool my kids (one is special needs and would never have real success in a traditional school) so as soon as I mop the floor is dirty again with jam or dirt or whatever that unknown substance the toddler was found with.

I have three boys, ages 5, 7, and 42, and I have trouble keeping up with the mess that they leave behind. With the exception of the stairs, we have hardwood and tile floors throughout the entire house. So, an iRobot Scooba would definitely help.

My son (6)is obsessed with robots and has been asking for an irobot for two years. He watches the videos of them dancing together on Youtube, he reads the instruction manuals online, reads about programming them. We used to have a Roomba, named Lola, that finally died. When it still worked and we moved when he was two, he cried and cried that we were putting her in a box – he thought we were killing her. I will never forget him hanging on to the box, sobbing, “Lola, Lola, Lola.”
Probably a little weird, but we all loved her.
When Lola died, we had a funeral.
Bringing the Scooba into our family would not only keep our house, which hosts the neighborhood constantly, clean, we would welcome her like a new family member.

I absolutely HAVE TO HAVE one of these!!!! With 3 people tracking in dirt and a little baby crawling around on the floors, I am CONSTANTLY sweeping the floors! HELP!!:)

Wow! What a great invention. Our wonderful rescue dog is going in for surgery tomorrow. That plus a 7 month old and full time jobs and we could use all the help we can get! Plus, I promise to give the Scooba a worthy name.

This sounds amazing! I wish I had more time to clean the floors, but it ends up near the end of my to-do-list, unfortunately, despite having two young kids who are always crawling, scooting, playing on the hardwood floors.
I need to get a Scuba! With an almost 3 year old, a 14 month old and a baby due in 4 weeks or less my floors are always dirty and by the end of the day I have no energy left to clean them.
