If you’ve got a busy summer ahead of you with adventures in new and exciting places, and you like to share your every move with your closest friends and family, a new app called Trip Lens is one to add to your packing, er, download list before you leave.

Trip Lens is a social network of travel bloggers and a travel journal in one, that lets you save photos, pictures, maps and blog posts of your trip’s highlights. If you want to take advantage of the social functionality, simply register for a free account, turn on location services and it will give you other Trip Lens users in your area that you can follow on their journeys, they can follow you. A travel love-fest. This is neat for discovering new places from others in your area who may give you insight into local hidden gems.

If you’re rather just keep a chronicle of your trip to share with friends and family, you can record your trip with photos, texts, maps and more all of which appear on a map. They can see it through the app (think Instagram) or via Facebook, Twitter or Email that includes a link to your own personalized travel blog site.

The cool part is if you happen to be in an area without Wi-Fi, Trip Lens will even automatically save everything for you, and then upload when you’re able to connect to a network.

Since the app runs GPS in the background, just be aware that it can use a whole lot of battery–and rack up data charges if you’re out of the country. Keep that in mind when you prepare to visit the world’s biggest ball of twine and need enough power to show it off to your friends and family. -Jeana

The Trip Lens travel app is available for free from iTunes.
