The Jam Wireless Bluetooth Speaker (above) is one that we originally saw at CES earlier this year. The fun color names are on the cutesie side (strawberry, apricot, blackberry) and the packaging that literally makes it look like a jar of jam. The affordable price definitely limits its range and volume, but for a family picnic on a blanket, it will do the job quite nicely. ($49.99)
This speaker that literally fits in your palm is an impressive unit that emits gorgeous sound and boasts an 8-hour battery life. It has a Bluetooth range of up to 40-feet and I love the fact that it’s so compact. You can throw it in your purse and have a really high-quality speaker at your disposal for any occasion. ($99)
Don’t be fooled by its size; this may be called a “micro” speaker, but it delivers big sound. Measuring in at around palm-size, this speaker can play continuous music via Bluetooth for up to five hours. If you want even bigger sound for a larger event, you can daisy chain a few together. And with the affordable price point, it’s definitely a great portable option. ($59.99)
UNDER $200
We’ve long been fans of Jawbone’s speaker options and Jambox the Remix is a great choice. With this palm-sized Jambox, you can “remix” and take advantage of a cool customization service allowing you to pick from a myriad color options for both the grill and the casing. The incredible sound and Bluetooth functionality is a given with Jambox, but being able to pick your own colors is a huge fun bonus. And if you want even bigger sound, don’t forget about the Big Jambox! (Jambox the Remix, $179; Big Jambox; $299)
Dr. Dre’s The Pill Bluetooth Wireless speaker is housed in a fun pill-shaped package. The four internal drives can be credited for boosting the bass and volume for amazing sound. What’s also cool is that you can pair with your phone or audio player by just tapping it. If you’re looking for a speaker with some personality, this one’s a good choice. ($199)
SPLURGE SPEAKERS
Another speaker that launched at CES that we’ve been keeping our eye on is the Jongo S3 Wireless Speaker. It’s a sleek little machine that you can use it on its own or even pair it with other speakers for full surround sound around the house. And for even more fun, you can add colorful grills to the front like this model above for just a few dollars more. ($230, available for pre-order)
