It’s been 10 years since Sal Khan first started creating educational video tutorials to help his niece across the country with her math homework. We’ve been huge fans of Khan Academy since, and now we’re raising our collective fists in the air to cheer for the new Khan Academy free SAT prep courses.

Yes, you read that right. Free.

Khan Academy free SAT prep courses | Cool Mom Picks

Khan Academy is committed to the idea that all students who want to go to college should be able to prepare for the SATs at their own pace for absolutely no cost. And when typical SAT prep courses can run you as much as $1000 or more, that’s something to really cheer about. The way we see it, kids’ scores shouldn’t be divided so strongly along socioeconomic lines as they are now–in other words, which families can afford tutoring, and which can’t.

Now, any student with an internet connection can download and study real, full-length SAT practice tests. If you feel like you need to brush up on some fundamentals, just click over to see the Khan tutorial for that specific area. It’s a really fantastic program that you can feel confident about, but beyond that, Khan Academy has partnered with the College Board to create free study materials for kids who will be taking the newly designed test (debuting in 2016), so by next spring you’ll have cutting-edge materials specifically for the new test.

This is a great way to help your kids start learning how to study, not just for the SAT but for those college courses they’ll be taking soon, once they ace this bad boy.

And even if you don’t have a junior in high school, log on for videos on everything from the basics of  the fiscal cliff or the physics of LeBron James’s shot or, hey, sometimes just Algebra for those times we need to help our kids through overly complicated math homework.

Start prepping for the SAT and other standardized tests at Khan Academy today.
