We love finding wonderful ways that we can give back and help kids who need it most, especially during the holiday season, which is why we were happy to discover Daymaker. By connecting foster children with people like us via their gift-giving website, they’re ensuring that foster kids get gifts on their special days too.

Daymaker works with local, high-impact charities to deliver the gifts you purchase to the kids in the foster care system as well as kids who are homeless, in low-income families or who have other special needs. This is so great if you’re getting kids involved in the giving, because they get to see the specific items versus you just clicking a dollar amount to be pulled from your account or charged to your credit card.

When you click “find a child,” you’ll see a list of kids, along with their age, city, and wish list. My kids like that they can search by gender, age, and interests.

Just click to add their wished-for items, which range from shoes to educational magazines to toys and games, to your cart. Tax and shipping are added at checkout, and the toy is delivered to the sponsoring charity (which is identified on the child’s profile too). That group will get it to the child.

You can even follow along in your Daymaker account to see the child receive the gifts you sent, and you can continue to send gifts to the same child over time — for their birthday, back to school, and so on. What a wonderful way to brighten a child’s holidays (or really, any special day), and teach your own kids about giving back.

Give a gift to a foster child this holiday season through the Daymaker website. Their app is coming soon.
