No glove, no love

It’s freezing outside, and you want to use your Smartphone to tweet about how incredibly freezing it is outside, but to do that you’d need to remove your warm gloves. Drat. If only there were a way to keep your hands warm and use a touch screen device. Ta da!! Check out Agloves, gloves that allow you to do just that. I didn’t pay much attention in science class, but apparently silver is a fabulous conductor and these knit gloves have it woven all through them. But, since the silver threads are coated in nylon, the gloves are soft...

And a very BetaMaXmas to you too

There was once a magical time. A time when children waited in breathless anticipation for their favorite Christmas Special to play on TV. There was no DVR or Video On Demand; no rewinding or fast-forwarding; no YouTube; no bathroom breaks. You had only one shot to watch it, and the commercials were almost as good as the show. Friends, technology has made those times as dead as the dodo. Or they were. Until now. Tune into the website BetaMaXmas and introduce your little ones to the wonderful world of a grainy TV with rabbit ears. Just like the TVs...

The Talk on CBS is listening. To us. Neat!

On the new CBS daytime show, The Talk, they’re doing a lot more than just talking, and we think it’s how well they are listening to moms like us that is worth applauding.  On first glance (or watch) it may seem that the likable hosts including Sharon Osbourne, Leah Remini and Holly Robinson Peete are going off stream-of-consciousness banter with guest stars thrown in for flavor. Turns out, there’s more to it then that. We’ve been so impressed with how much goes on behind the scenes to ensure that they reach out to online moms specifically, and the blogosphere...

A digital camera for the littlest shutterbugs

Holiday time is of course a photographer’s paradise for capturing family memories. I encourage the kids in our family to take pictures, which provides a great “kid’s eye view” into own traditions and activities–and the fact that my own favorites aren’t necessarily my kids’ favorites. Let’s just say anything involving cookies seems to make a snapshot-worthy moment. While my tweens are old enough to work an actual  compact digital camera, my 4 year old nephew can feel left out of the fun, so I looked into VTech’s children’s digital camera which could keep his own little creative fingers busy....

Piquing Our Geek: Twitter and Facebook Shoes

Purchasing an expensive pair of sneakers from the Van store for my tween son because, as he said “everybody wears Van,” I’m well aware of the power of social influence on kids fashion. So when I saw the picture of the Adidas Twitter and Facebook sneakers designs by Gerry McKay, it made me wonder if the modern equivalent of peer pressure will be wearing sneakers to match your favorite social network? Technology inspired fashion trends have been around for some time. But with sneakers featuring a Twitter or Facebook logo, the new twist goes beyond Star Wars, Mario, or...

Parenting Magazine goes all 2.0 with an iPad mag

I tend to catch up on my magazine reading when I’m working out at the gym, getting a pedicure, or sitting in the doctor’s office, and I admit that I’ve been tempted to rip out a few pages here and there. You know, for the great recipes, cool crafts, and compelling article. Well, now with Parenting Seasons, I can get all the great parts of one of my fave mags right on my iPad. And I won’t feel bad about wanting to bring them home. This new iPad app from Parenting Magazine is more like a digital magazine. Offering...

Fitbit – The perfect combination of tech and fitness

Even though I enjoy working out and do so almost every day, I’d still raise an eyebrow if someone gave me a sports bra for Christmas. Let’s just say fitness gifts can be tricky. That wouldn’t be the case, however, if Santa happened to score me a Fitbit, a very cool sleep and fitness tracker featured in our Tech Gift Guide this year. Using motion technology similar to the Nintendo Wii, the Fitbit tracks everything from your calories burned and steps taken to distance traveled, and even your sleep quality. Somehow. Though as a mom of four with a...

Dads Dig This – Samsung PICO Projector

Wondering what sorts of tech dads are into? Here’s one of our fave dad bloggers, Pierre Kim, aka MetroDad, sharing his current obsession in our next installment of Dads Dig This. When I was a little kid, I spent my summers at a gorgeous sleep-away camp up in Maine. Every Sunday night, the counselors would set up an outdoor projector and would screen old Hollywood movies on a bedsheet. The picture was horrible and the sound quality was atrocious. But those Sunday night movies are among the fondest memories of my childhood. Now with my Samsung SP-H03, I’m reliving...

Piquing Our Geek: Play Monopoly with a credit card

No matter how many video games my kids play, they still like a good old fashioned board game. Monopoly is one of our favorites, and now there’s a new version that incorporates some modern twists into the age-old game. Monopoly Revolution definitely makes use of technology in a way that’s not for board game purists, but might be for kids like mine who hate setting up the money. Players use credit cards to purchase properties, so no more worries about keeping track of paper money…or hiding it from your brother. And passing Go generates a party tune while landing...
