This year, I am in the mood for some fun holiday and technology shopping–fun meaning that I do it from home. But if you’re heading out to brave the crowds today, first arm yourself with a mobile shopping app like the TGI Black Friday app for Android.
TGI Black Friday Shopping App (available through iTunes and the Android Market) shows you the Black Friday ads for all
major retail stores, and get updates on ads that are leaked before the official announcements. The app also downloads PDF ads to my smartphone
so I can bring them electronically to the store and make sure I’m actually getting the advertised deal.
I really like the
ability to search by store, category or even category within store. A
general product search also yields price comparisons listed at the
bottom of the screen. Valuable deals can then be saved to shopping list
organized by location.
A big challenge for this app, or any of the other deal sites, is that
some deals may just be a rumor. If it seems too good to be true — let’s just say, check with the store first.
That said, I did find a
great digital camera bundle on the TGI Black Friday app that was not
advertised in the store’s flyer. Calling the store confirmed that the bundle
will be offered on Black Friday only in the store – and that quantities
are limited to stock on hand.
While Black Friday still gives me images of large crowds fighting over the talking toy of the day, I
do believe there are great deals for those brave enough to enter the
store battlefield. Or do what our family does: Identify a small number of key gift items for purchase today, and save the rest for a more leisurely pace
at a later date. -Beth
