I’m not a big resolutions maker, but am a proponent of out with the old and in with the new. I spent the first day of 2011 cleaning out months of accumulated clutter in my kitchen cabinets and drawers and already feel less hoarder-ish.
I should return the old phones I dug up to Recellular, a company we recently featured that buys back your used cell phones and/or recycles them for free. But turns out there are some great tech recycling events we tracked down this month.
In New York, Tekserve is hosting several free eWaste recycling events this month. All the details are at the link, but they will be accepting old computers, printers, monitors, DVD players, phones, fax machines for safe disposal–nice considering the components in many electronics contribute up to 70% of the toxins found in landfills. That’s a scary thought.
More motivation: bring your unwanted electronics and an enter to win a raffle to win an Apple MacBook Air and will also receive a coupon for a special discount on an Apple Mac, iPod, or iPad, and an eco-friendly LCD from Samsung.
For our West Coast Cool Mom Tech-ers, All Green Recycling is offering a similar program in spots in Southern California on dates throughout January. You can find all the details on their site.
And if you’re not in NY or CA, visit the EPA website for information on recycling in your area, or go to your nearest Best Buy (a recent CMT sponsor) and take advantage of the Best Buy recycling program. -Jeana
