Do you have any ideas for a nice looking backpack purse? (I’m on crutches for the next month or so–great excuse for another purse, right?) Need something large enough to fit the laptop in, but also versatile enough to throw in a diaper or two for the plane trip. -Heather
Sorry to hear about your injury! The best bet for you would be a laptop backpack. That will free up your hands for your crutches and make it easiest for you to tote around your laptop–and chase after your kids.
If you choose a regular backpack, you also have to protect your computer with a padded sleeve. The benefit of a dedicated laptop backpack is that it provides an already cushioned enclosure for your PC and you don’t have to worry about any extra padding.
It looks like a compact stylish backpack, but the Stella (shown up top) from Knomo is deceivingly roomy and can actually fit a 15″ laptop inside. There are internal compartments and dividers to keep you organized, and small pockets that are perfect for storing those snacks and diapers. I love the front zippered section which makes getting your license at the security check-point much easier. With crutches, kids and airport security, you need as little hassle as possible. And the Chanel-like quilted exterior is just gorgeous. ($139 at Knomo, also at our affiliate Amazon)
These bags are rugged on the outside, padded on the inside, and come in four great embroidered styles. The multiple pockets are super convenient, and I like the handy detachable phone case right on the shoulder strap. ($150)

This backpack also holds a laptop that’s up to 15.4″ with extra padding to keep the computer safe, and even more padding on the shoulder straps to keep you comfy. There are a range of design options for you to choose from and depending on your mood, can go either poppy or python. Plus, it comes with a free matching mouse pad. Score. ($105)

This modern and understated, yet so stylish, backpack is a beautifully designed and aesthetically pleasing workhorse. I adore the simple pink color against the black and the roomier size–it fits larger laptops up to 16-17″. There are little zippered compartments throughout for your various gadgets, chargers, headphones and it also comes with a matching accessories pouch.
What’s extra great about the one: a portion of its sales go to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation. (Price: $129.99)

I have a Lands’ End backpack for laptops made from recycled soda bottles and I LOVE it. It has taken many a trip with me. In fact it’s going on a jet plane later this week!
(Disclosure: I received it as swag during BlogHer ’09, but we are longtime loyal customers of Lands’ End.)
Love the Komen bag. Would someone please buy me this bag. Thanks.
I really love my Dakine bag. I know they usually make stuff for skaters, but their girl bags are totally cute! I’ve had mine for many years and find it immensely useful- pocket for laptop/ netbook and I throw diapers in one of the front pockets.
Take a look at the Urban Junket TOTE convertible laptop bag/backpack. It’s gorgeous and doesn’t look like a backpack at all, but in a pinch it converts to a backpack and is perfect for traveling through airports. The 17″ bag is plenty big to hold diapers and wipes. I have two.

These are great, thanks for sharing! I’m finding that I want a backpack/handbag that will be big enough to carry my iPad as I seem to take that with me everywhere.
