I love that tech is getting smaller and smaller–especially for those of us apartment dwellers with limited home office space. And for a while now, I’ve been eying the aptly named HP Envy printer, which has the compact footprint of a DVD player.
The HP Envy 100 e-All-in-One printer is beyond sleek, at about 17 by 13 inches, and just 4 inches high. I love that you can put it up on a shelf (away from little hands) or with your audio equipment. I’d imagine it’s also a great choice for a small dorm room.
Beyond looks, it’s got sweet 3-in-one functionality, judging from the live demos I’ve seen. You can print, copy, scan, or send docs to print wirelessly from any computer–hooray for ePrint and Mac compatibility! In fact, it also gets great reviews for wireless printing from iPads and iPhones. And it’s super quiet, which matters when you’ve got a napping kid nearby.
The color touch screen is my favorite feature, letting you access dozens of apps from the HP app store so you can print movie tickets, menu planners, Martha Stewart recipes, and coloring pages from Sesame Street, Disney, and Nickelodeon (right) without going through your computer.
One more great benefit? It’s a green printer, the first ever to be totally PVC-free. Less PVC in the world is a good thing.
On the downside, I’ve seen some customer complaints about ease of set-up; I am getting the sense that it might work more seamlessly with Mac OS than with Windows but I could be wrong there. Also be prepared to spend a lot on ink, as with most printers, especially if you use yours for photo printing. I wouldn’t recommend the HP Envy for professional scrapbooking or printing out copious manuscripts; but for all the fun things we average moms tend to use our printers for, it’s a nice little printer. And I want one. –Liz
