I am having trouble finding earphones for my 3 1/2 year old to use while
traveling. We have a volume limiting set but they don’t seem
to stay on well and he complains that they hurt. Do you have other children’s headphone ideas? -Meg
Hi Meg, I had the same issue last year, when my own youngest daughter was 3 1/2 and we were heading out on a long road trip. I’ve realized earbuds generally don’t do the trick, so I searched around and ended up grabbing two pairs of the Kidz Gear Wired Headphones for Kids. What can I say–I’m a sucker for products with a ton of good reviews on Amazon. And I have to agree.
They’re extremely lightweight (they’re designed for kids 2 and up) but still durable–both pairs have now survived over a year in our back seat and that’s saying something. These headphones come with a volume control knob, as well as an additional cable that knocks out 20% of the max volume from the sound source.
As for comfort–well, they’re well padded and they actually stay on without my help every four seconds. In fact, turns out my daughter likes to wear them in the car all the time. Generally without listening to music at all.

I agree with the Kidz Gear recommendation. I got these three years ago when my daughter was a bit under 2. They don’t get constant use, but always come along on plane trips. They have held up well, and appear to be comfortable.
