With SiriusXM satellite radios in our cars, and Spotify on my computer, I can’t tell you the last time I listened to the actual radio. But since this sweet little gadget arrived at my house a few weeks ago, I’ve been making up for lost time. And loving it.
The Q2 WiFi Internet Radio allows you to listen up to four Internet radio stations at one time completely wirelessly. With a quick download of the web-available Q2 software to your computer, you just plug your Q2 into your computer, sync it with your WiFi and pick your favorite stations from all over the world. It was just that easy. And wow, there are lots! Whether it’s music, like alternative, classical, or even my fave Philly station I used to listen to growing up, plus podcasts, like NPR or our fave Spare the Rock, Spoil the Child, you’ll find no shortage of options. Unfortunately, it doesn’t magically siphon out the ads on stations that still have them, but that’s a small price to pay.
When you want to change volume or stations from your chosen four, there’s no button pushing involved. Just roll your q2 over so the corresponding number is facing up. Volume is controlled by leaning it forward or backwards.
So far, I’ve had no WIFI sync issues whatsoever and I’ve been very impressed with the sound quality, though don’t expect to be able to super blast your tunes without getting a little bit of a buzz. It’s a fairly small speaker after all.
Now if you’re someone who loves to flip the channels, this might not be the gadget for you unless you’ve got the Q2 right next to your computer at all times so you can switch up your stations. But it’s such a perfect gift for a tween who you want might to limit the stations they’re listening to. Or for someone like me who has specific musical tastes that aren’t bound to change on a daily basis. -Kristen
