It’s funny to think that not-that-long-ago, The Beatles were freaking parents out with their rock-and-roll music. In contrast, I couldn’t wait to play The Beatles for my kids, mainly because I find so many of their lyrics and melodies so perfect for young children.
While I normally prefer to go to the “original source” for my Beatles songs, I do really like one version of a perfect-for-kids song covered by none other than CMP favorite, and big kid himself, Caspar Babypants.
Otherwise known as Chris Ballew of indie band The Presidents of the United States of America, he sings The Beatles’ Octopus’s Garden on his new release Baby Beatles! and honestly? It’s a worthwhile download.
Caspar’s arrangement has a lighter touch and a more gentle sound than the original, though the lyrics remain just as sweet. Even my great grandparents would approve. –Christina
