I am always prepared when embarking on a road trip with my kids–and by road trip, I mean anything longer than an hour. That’s pretty much their threshold for patience before the “when are we gonna be thereeeeeeeeeee?” whines set in. Since our portable DVD player recently broke, I’m considering having my iPad be a stand-in for an upcoming three hour-long drive.
Rather than jury-rig a way to attach the iPad to the seat back–I’d really prefer not to use duct tape–I figured it’s a better idea to find a dedicated case for this very purpose.
Lo and behold, I found the Griffin Cinema Seat, a perfect solution for protecting your iPad and keeping it securely attached in the car.
The case envelops the iPad yet still makes the screen and ports completely accessible. Just strap it over the back of the front seat with the elastic strap. There’s also a small pocket for storing accessories like ear buds or wires.
If your iPad has turned into an entertainment system for your kids and has become one of your road trip essentials like I’m envisioning mine to be, the Griffin CinemaSeat seems like a good way to keep those whines at bay. –Jeana
Find the iPad Cinema Seat for the iPad 1 and 2 online at Griffin, at the Apple Store, or at a great price from our affiliate Amazon
That is AWESOME! I’m getting an iPad soon and that would be a great accessory.
what about glare?
That’s great, the only problemis if you don’t have the wireless plan, you can’t steam video from netflix or youtube or your online disney movies. 🙁 There should be a plug in for that or be able to download the movie to your ipad temporarily so you can watch them even without an internet connection.
Great point Jennifer. Right now, I just download a bunch of content (like Netflix) and the kids can watch. But it’s not streaming. Hopefully soon!
Jennifer, if you want content for watching on the road or on airplane, head over to the itunes store and buy or rent tv shows, movies, university lectures, etc. Cool Mom Picks, I’m curious about how you’re downloading Netflix for watching later. I thought Netflix was only available to stream – I would LOVE to know your secret for downloading content to watch without streaming it!
APOLOGIES, wrote Netflix and meant iTunes (do’h). Unfortunately, I do not have secret Netflix download skills!
I have an iPad already and this is a great accessory for the car. The kids always watch TV from the iPad when we are in the car. I have the TV Everywhere app through my provider/employer DISH Network on my iPad. It is great for road trips. They get tired of watching movie after movie, and this way they can watch their TV shows live from wherever we are at. They have access to all our subscription channels and their DVR recordings from the iPad. It is like having our TV with us at all times.
will this fit the ipad2 – i don’t see one for sale at apple or amazon specifically for ipad2, just ipad.
A little late to the party but any comments on how the kids like it when they’re not the one sitting directly in front of it. We have two kidlets & I’m pretty sure they’d fight over who would have it in the seat in front of them. Curious =) ps. Will you replace your broken DVD player or keep on with the iPad?
You can simply create a wireless hotspot from your mobile phone (such as iPhone 4/4S) and stream using the wifi on your tablet. Just make sure your mobile phone data plan can take the streaming/download demands – you may want to stream in Standard Definition vs. High Definition particularly because it won’t make much of a difference on a small screen.
