At our sister site, Cool Mom Picks, we very much celebrate the artisans, craftspeople, and passionate business-owners of the world. So of course we love more than anything when those traits intersect with technology, and we can showcase them here. One great new find that fits the bill: a gorgeous online film series about all things handmade.
Aptly named Made by Hand, this beautifully produced, brand new series of very short films features the folks behind items made locally and sustainably in Brooklyn. (Well, at least it’s local to me. Me living in Brooklyn and all.) Right now it has a lad bent to it; think handmade knives, shaving soaps, or gin from the Breuckelen Distilling Co, which happens to be New York’s first distiller since prohibition. But the series seems to be expanding, based on a recent tweet about an upcoming episode about Tattly temporary tattoos.
In fact, if you have a great product with a compelling story, you can contact the creators. It’s not a bad idea. Especially considering there’s a Made by Hand shoppe just for those who fall in love with the items after seeing the film. Keep it bookmarked for holidays or Father’s Day.
I can personally vouch for the gin, since the sigOth fell in love with the packaging and brought a bottle home weeks ago. Even before we knew about the film. Eh, even parents are on trend once in a while. –Liz
