Like many of you, we’ve used Picnik on a fairly regular basis. But now that it’s officially closed today, it’s time for some new photo editing options. In case you missed them, here are a few of our favorite Picnik alternatives that we’ve featured here on Cool Mom Tech–some of which we like even better. (Sorry Google!).
–Camera + is another mobile app which allows you to both take the picture directly through the app and then immediately crop and edit. It’s not the same as Picnik, but it’s terrifically handy.
I am using OpenPhoto. That is the only way to ensure that the photos are mine and continue mine even in case of service shut down.
As a mother, it is really important to me that my son will arrive at a age of 21 being able to see all his photos. We love pictures and if I can not do that, in a kind of way, I have failed.
They are open source and free. They also have iPhone app and are working on android.

I’ve been using Snapseed for several months, both on my iPhone & iPad and love its simplicity and results.
I’ve been using PicMonkey for a month+ and am liking it too. They’re introducing new effects all the time, just wish they would get the collage feature launched.
Also coming out soon in the PicNik-replacement category – Ribbet (https://www.ribbet.com), from another group of former PicNikers (PicMonkey’s founders also came from PicMonkey).
So, despite all the worryin’, it looks like there will be a few good alternatives to choose from post-PicNik.
Yes, I am with Lollie on this one and am waiting for Ribbet to go live. It is built on the same platform as Picnik and should mirror Picnik so the learning curve will be minimal….hopefully!
