Apple Brains FruteroIn a couple of weeks, I’ll head to Brooklyn for the fourth annual Kindiefest kids’ music conference. It’s fun, enlightening, supportive, and—as you’d expect—full of great music from some of our favorite kids’ performers.

And though the first half of the conference is only for those in the industry, Sunday’s concert on the 29th is one you’ll want to hit with your family. There will be an eclectic mix of bands you won’t hear in one place anywhere else, one of which is the off-the-wall, enthusiastically pro-fruit kindie band Apple Brains whose bilingual ode to LA’s fruit-cart vendors is our download pick of the week.

Frutero mixes Apple Brain’s lo-fi, not-too-slick sound with bright Spanish horns in a part-English, part-Spanish homage to those push-cart vendors who make their way around sunny southern California selling all kinds of tropical fruit. It’s also a great song to sing the next time you hit the produce section in the supermarket with the hopes of expanding the kids’ palette beyond bananas. -Christina
