I realize that it should be enough to wrap up a pretty new iPad Mini, stick it under the tree and call it a day. And it is an awesome gift, don’t get me wrong. But as someone who likes to add a little bit of a personal touch to all my gifts, just a gadget in a box can tend to feel incomplete.
So I rounded-up three ways (easy, promise!) that you can turn those coveted tech goodies into the most memorable holiday gifts.
Engraving
If you’re buying an iPad or iPad Mini for someone special this holiday season, you can, as always, personalize it by adding a little message on the back for free if you order via the Apple.com website. Keep in mind that engraving it will affect the resale value, but adding a sweet note, special quote, or even a funny message can give your gift a total “wow” factor. Or hey, maybe you go with some irreverent literary quote and you can resell it on eBay later as “Special Vonnegut Edition!”
Skins and Cases
These days, you can find all sorts of cool covers and gadget skins for almost every gadget out there, so we’ve always been fans of adding one to the gadget you’re giving. We love the DIY photo cases from Tiny Prints (shown at very top), personalized tech cases from Case-Mate, and Uncommon personalized cases. Plus you can create a cool photo skin for everything from a smart phone to a laptop computer.
Pre-loading with apps, movies, music, books
Before you hand over that new iPod, Nano or e-reader, I love the idea of adding music playlists or must-read books so they’re reading for playing and reading when your lucky recipient turns their gadget on. Sure, it’ll cost you a little extra, but it’s such a thoughtful way to make an already cool gift even cooler.
