As a military spouse, I’ve had first hand experience with military charities, especially when my husband was deployed. Thanks to technology, it’s easy to give back. All it takes is a simple click to donate to these worthy causes in honor of Memorial Day.
I’ve been a fan of Team Rubicon ever since I met co-founder Jacob Wood at a TEDx we both spoke at a few years ago. They deploy war veterans to assist in post-tragedy recovery and rebuilding efforts all over the world, utilizing the skills these men and women gained through their military experience to help the needs of others. Their most recent mission is Operation Starting Gun, which has sent volunteers to assist with Oklahoma tornado victims.
Fisher House Foundation uses donations to build comfort homes on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers around the world, enabling family members to be close to loved ones during hospitalization for a combat injury, illness or disease. They also run the Hero Miles Program, which allows you to donate your frequent flyer miles, that they then utilize to help bring faraway family members to the bedside of their injured family member.
Initially created to provide monetary support to family members who lost loved ones in combat, the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund now focuses on severely injured soldiers at both their rehabilitation center as well as their traumatic brain injury center. Their goal is to build satellite centers near bases to help provide support for soldiers who are discharged but continue to require care.
