Now that we’re near the halfway point of summer, chances are we’ve all done some hard travelin’ by now. Hey, traveling with kids isn’t easy.
And while Alastair Moock and The Okee Dokee Brothers are certainly talking about a much more serious journey in one of our favorite songs from this highly praised new album (even Katie Couric loved it!), we think the lyrics will speak to all of us at this time of the year.
Putting their distinctive voices to Woody Guthrie’s classic, Alastair Moock and The Okee Dokee Brothers go on a rolicking journey in the recently reviewed Singing Our Way Through: Songs for the World’s Bravest Kids with their take of Hard Travelin’.
With strumming guitars and a wailing harmonica, it has a wonderfully upbeat sound that plays against sobering lyrics about tough times. And while this would be a fun song to sing along with when stuck in beach traffic—-Oh woe is us!—-it’s also a reminder of all those brave kids and families who are doing a much more difficult journey every day. –Christina
