There are a few app developers who we know will turn out something great, before we really even test it out. Not a lot, but a few. That’s the way we feel about developer Nosy Crow, but of course, we had to take a look at this new app release just to be sure.
Aaaannd, yep, we were right.
Nosy Crow’s Little Red Riding Hood interactive storybook for iOS is a great way for children ages 3-8 to not only revisit this classic, but also have a hand in recreating the ending.
This “choose your adventure” format that we have come to love with Nosy Crow’s other app hits, Cinderella and the Three Little Pigs, is also how Little Red Riding Hood works, and I’ll tell you, my daughter loved that she could have a different outcome and storyline each time she visited the app. Certainly makes for a more interactive reading time experience for kids.
Kids are on a journey with Little Red, helping her collect three different things on her way to Grandma’s house. And by making choices like taking a left at the fork or right, they can experience different ways of how the story unfolds and different activities they can play (like picking flowers or collecting feathers).
In addition to the games, the entire story is completely interactive with hundreds of different touchpoints along the way that respond to kids’ taps. The graphics are great, as usual, and gotta love that little kid narrator’s British accent. Always adds a more sophisticated feel to Nosy Crow’s books.
As far as apps go, it’s a little pricey at $5.99, but considering it’s like eight books in one I think it’s well worth it. –Jeana
