Mind Of My OwnThe Fids and Kamily ballot for top kids’ music had a new category in ’11: Top Three Songs of the year. I never saw any results though, leading me to believe that among the thirty judges, we all picked three different songs. Hey, there was a lot of good music last year.

I never shared my picks before now, and if you are looking to add some tunes you may not already have in your kids’ collection, here are my picks. Feel free to call them oldies but goodies.

Frances England’s Mind of My Own is a perfect anthem for those bold and precocious toddlers and preschoolers who can “do it myself”. I love the sass in her lyrics and a chorus that makes everyone want to sing along.
Little Nut Tree

I will fully admit to having a musical crush on Shawana Kemp of Shine and the Moonbeams who sang her heart out—and blew us all away—at Kindiefest 2011. So when she paired up with Dan Zanes, one of the most beloved voices of the kids’ music world, it’s not surprising I fell hard for Wake Up Baby. It’s a song that is both soulful and playful and a great tune to get any day started right.

Caspar Babypants
Closing out with a bedtime lullaby, my next pick is an achingly beautiful piece on Caspar Babypants’ Sing Along! called Baby Cloud. It’s the voice of  Rachel Loshak you’ll hear, along with pretty strings, to gently lull your little ones to sleep. Absolutely gorgeous, with a video that shouldn’t be missed. Christina
