Last night, my five year-old asked about why Independence Day and July 4th were on the same day. Pretty good question, I thought. And when I started to explain the meaning of Independence Day, I found myself more or less paraphrasing one of my favorite Schoolhouse Rock videos.

If it’s been a while since you checked out No More Kings, this is a perfect day to do it. Pretty amazing that close to 40 years after it was written, it’s still about the catchiest, most fun way to explain the basic gist of the American revolution to kids and help them understand the meaning of independence. Besides, seeing Ben Franklin naked wearing a barrel never gets old.

My kids have the video on pretty frequent play on their approved list of videos using the Ducky Tube app and have pledged to have it memorized by the end of the day. I wouldn’t put it past them.

One warning–you’ll get Rockin’ and a rollin’ splishin’ and a splashin’ over the horizon what can it be…stuck in your head for the next few decades. Trust me. –Liz
