Don’t know about your brood, but if our kids are excited about the new LEGO movie we’ve been hearing about for months, the video game is coming in a close second. And we’ve got some just-released screenshots to get them excited. (Show them at your own risk.)

Unfortunately we have to wait until 2014 for its release (to coincide with the movie, of course) but it will be available for Xbox One, PS3, PS4, Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, Playstation Vita, and Windows PCs. In other words–everyone gets to play!

The idea is that you are Emmet, an average minifig who is accidentally mistaken for a master builder and given the key to saving the earth. Which of course he does by building stuff, wrecking stuff, building more stuff, and eventually defeating the requisite evil villain.

The cool thing about the game is that players will be able to collect instruction pages to build construction sets, and get through 15 levels with more than 90 characters. It definitely won’t be one that they get through in a day, and then they’re bored and never play it again.

Considering the movie itself features voices like Will Ferrell, Morgan Freeman, Will Arnett, Liam Neeson, Elizabeth Banks, and Chris Pratt as Emmett (not to mention the coolness of LEGO) we imagine it will be a huge hit. Not sure if they’ll be in the game as well. We’ll just have to wait–a long while–to see. Bet it’s worth it. –Liz

Keep an eye out here for updates about both the LEGO Movie and the LEGO Movie Videogame both out in 2014. Can you tell we’re excited?
