With Father’s Day right around the corner, I’m thinking the new Orée Pebble 2 smartphone charger and wireless speaker might be the ultimate gift for the techie who’s got everything because absolutely no one has their hands on it. Yet.

The original Orée Pebble and the new Pebble 2 use an induction technology called QI to charge your phone simply by placing it on the Pebble surface. If you’re not familiar with QI, it’s actually standard to Android phones like the Samsung S4/5, Nexus 5/7, and several models of the Nokia Lumia, but iPhone 5/5S users need a separate sleeve, also offered by Orée.

(Hey Apple, we’d love to see QI in the next iPhone model. Pretty please.)

In addition to QI-enabled charging, the Orée Pebble 2 also includes a wireless speaker that’s made from wood or marble not just for looks, but for how these materials interact with sound waves, adding richness to the sound that you just won’t get from plastic or metal housing. And yes, any Bluetooth-enabled phone will work, and no sleeve required for the iPhone. Whoo!

Even though it won’t ship until this fall, I can see the Pebble 2 as an awesome Father’s Day splurge, a gift in honor of a promotion, or to go along with a new computer or a home office renovation. It’s definitely pricey, even with the Kickstarter Early Bird offer, but what a cool way to commemorate a special occasion and beautify your desk at the same time.
