As longtime fans of BrainPOP and BrainPOP Jr., I always turn to the sites for solid, clear, kid-friendly explanations of everything from the first Thanksgiving to 9/11. So I’m turning to the BrainPOP Jr. site (best for kids up to third grade or so) and their excellent free video today to help me in explaining US elections to my kids.
The video on the branches of government is wonderfully descriptive and clear, and in fact even gives me ways to answer the 8 million questions kids always have. You’ll find yourself saying, Oh right! That’s a good way to explain it.
It’s not a comprehensive description of the election process; for that you’ll need the subscribers-only voting video from BrainPOP. In fact, if you’re willing to pony up for a subscription for either site–totally worth it if you want a smart educational resource for inquisitive kids–then you have access to even more videos on more specific topics.
BrainPOP in particular has all kinds of great US government and law videos and companion educational content on subjects like educational videos on primaries and caucuses, democracy and political party origins.
But for now, today’s free video is a decent start toward explaining to your kids just why all those boring congressional ads have interrupted The Voice for the last few months.
Visit the BrainPOP and BrainPOP Jr. sites for limited free educational videos. Or grab a subscription for excellent educational videos for kids for $10.95 a month with discounts for yearly subscriptions. Also, check with your school to see if they already have a subscription your students can use!
