Those AT&T commercials that feature kids who have suffered from car accidents as a result of texting while driving literally bring me to tears. I know I’m not alone. To think that one single split second or word in this case can change everything is just too much for any parent to bear.
We’re totally committed to safe driving, and want to help spread the word about a new campaign from AT&T called It Can Wait, launching today.
Raising awareness about an epidemic that injures or kills more than 100,000 people a year is definitely worth talking about regardless of if you have teens in your household or not.
How can you spread the word? Several ways. Take the pledge directly on the website that promises you’ll never text and drive, and encourage everyone in your family and social networks to do the same. When you tweet out your commitment to the cause, make sure you use the #itcanwait hashtag and tag @ATT.
If you do have teens in your house, start the conversation early, before they even start driving. If they are of driving age and if they have an Android phone or Blackberry device, check out these DriveMode mobile apps that disable calling features that make it impossible to accept calls while driving. Other platforms are in development.
Let’s start the conversation and make sure that our teens practice safe driving. Are you in?
Please visit It Can Wait for more information on AT&T’s campaign to stop distracted driving and to give your support to this life-saving cause.
This is a great and important cause. Texting and driving can be deadly because of taking your eyes off the road. Sadly, it can be more than just the driver that gets hurt. Passengers, or others that are in an accident with someone that was texting can pay a higher price with injuries or even death. Please put down your phones and focus on the road. It Can Wait!
