Pixar comes to life in Kinect Rush–and so will your kids.

I’m definitely an old school gamer who spent way too many hours during college with my butt on a couch and my hand firmly grasped around a controller developing sore thumbs. I love how far video games have come since then, as demonstrated by my Kinect for XBOX 360 post-game soreness a few weeks ago at the Dad 2.0 Summit. Let’s just say I earned those sore muscles, considering my friends could barely pull me away from the new Pixar Game, Kinect Rush.

I loved it so much, I hosted a Pixar Playdate at my place, inviting some of my kids’ friends to play for an afternoon. Let’s just say the moms loved it just as much as the kids.

Now I do my best to keep the licensed characters in our home to a minimum, but I admit to a weakness for anything Pixar. John Lasseter is a veritable genius, and I always feel like the studio’s films entertain parents too. This game is no exception.

Players pick from five cool Pixar movie-themed games, including Up, Cars, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, and not surprisingly, Toy Story. But don’t expect to sit around; this being Kinect, you are the controller with the sensor tracking your motions. Which you’re going to have to run, jump, climb and more. It’s a serious, no-joke work out to play these games.

Pixar Cars 2 characters from Kinect Rush

I love how some of the Pixar Rush games are competitive, like Cars, for example, while others require cooperation between players. Of course as with any game, this can be a bit challenging if you’ve got kids at different ages and skill levels. But overall, it’s pretty cool that kids are playing both separately and collaboratively to help their favorite characters.

The more you play, the more levels, skills, and other surprises are unlocked, making this more than just a one or two-off type game. In fact, if your kids are anything like mine, you’ll have to drag them away from it. Which, given how much it wears them out, isn’t such a bad thing. –Kristen

You can purchase Kinect Rush at the XBox Marketplace or our affiliate Amazon.com

Thanks to Kinect for XBOX 360 for hooking us up with Kinect and a copy of Kinect Rush, as well as providing snacks and goodies for our Pixar Playdate. We are ready for the next one!

Although we love ALL of the Pixar movies, I would say our current favorite is Cars and Cars 2. I think this game will entertain all of my kids (8 years, 4 years, and 1 years) and it is something they can all do together. I know my 1 year old would not be playing but would love to see her brothers bouncing around playing the game. We are giving my oldest Xbox with Kinect for his birthday next week and this would be an added bonus!

I’d have to say Cars is our favorite. I love the story, the music, the characters… My son loves the cars. It’s played at least twice a week in our house!

My boys LOVE Toy Story (1, 2 and 3). “Woody” and “Buzz” were two of their first words. We already have a few Kinect games in our library and my boys get a real kick out of them. If they saw Woody and Buzz on the screen and knew that they could play games with them, they might just freak out :)

Our little family loooooves Ratatouille!!! My daughter is a pre-teen but my son is still in PreK…so we’ve got varying ages in our household. Ratatouille is funny but it sends out a great message of equality and hard work. Even though you may look different, come from a different background as your peers, or even have different ways of approaching things you can still be successful!!

The Incredibles is my sons’ favorite, and I love it, too! It was a fun update of classic superhero tropes.

Although we love them all, my favorite is Up! It’s such a sweet story about fulfilling dreams and goals. My son went from data to Toy Story, and he loves the thought of toys being able to be like us in their way, that they’re not just something to be tossed around but taken cared of. Thanks for the opportunity!

My son loves Cars, my daughter Incredibles. I am a fan of Cars since it occupies a full 2 hours! They both love the music from Cars. My daughter likes Incredibles, because they are real people. She has a Dash and Violet costume that she runs around the house in often. Pixar is so fun for our whole family, although I prefer Toy Story 1, watched it when it first came out.

Cars rules in our household. My two oldest (5&6) would watch it over and over if we let them (good thing DVDs don’t wear out like VHS tapes did when I was a kid). The music and the action are what gets the kids going (good thing they slow down every once in a while).

My family’s favorite is probably Up – we often find ourselves yelling ‘squirrel!!!’ when my 2 year old gets distracted. :)

Hard to chose just one, but I would have to say our family loves Toy Story, why because you we all fell in love with Andy as a boy and watched him grow up!

Cars 2! My son is half Japanese, so it was cool to see that they went to Japan for a race.

I’d have to say Toy Story is our favorite. My kids, even the teenagers, love to watch it. We love Toy Story because you can’t help but fall in love with all the characters, even that cute penguin in the first movie who lost his squeaker. Up is a close second.

Our family favorite is the Toy Story Trilogy. The animation was great and the theme of friendship throughout is a good lesson to learn, besides that they were all just fun movies!

Although my favorite may change depending on the day you ask, you asked today and my answer is “Up.” The reason I love it so much is the sequence where we get the story of Carl and Ellie’s marriage. It’s a breathtaking, heartbreaking work of purely visual storytelling, and it brings on the waterworks Every. Single. Time I watch. Not so much for my kids, but they love: 1) the initial balloon launch, 2) Kevin the bird, and 3) Dug (OK, we all love Dug!). I also think Carl reminds them a little of their now-deceased grandpa whom they miss very much. I love Pixar!
