Millie the dog appsAfter my kids had mastered mama and dada, the next thing they started saying is When are we getting a dog? Since my three kids are so obsessed with friendly canines, it was a no-brainer that we’d check out a new app that stars man’s (and kid’s) best friend. And this new ebook series starring one special pet is so cute, I give it two paws up.

The free app Meet Millie, and its follow up full-length paid app, Millie and the Lost Key, provide an introduction to what I hope will be a long series of adventures about Millie the dog. Part story and part game, these two imaginative ebooks have plenty for little fingers to tap and swipe.
The narrator does a great job of building Millie up to be something super heroic which makes her ordinary talents pretty funny to witness. Little kids will think this is hilarious, and even I cracked a few smiles. You’ll note that when Millie goes on her big adventure in search for the “Lost Key to Endless Bacon”, she is actually just meandering through Central Park.
There are hidden “stickers” that kids can collect over time, and I also love “bedtime mode” which dims the brightness and lowers the sound of both the narrator and background music so that quiet time remains quiet. Something real dogs don’t always understand. –Christina
