There’s nothing more delicious for a parent than when we appreciate an app as much as our kids do–even if it’s not quite for the same reasons. We really loved Mo Willems’ first app and his new one has even more of the spirit of the quirky writer–not to mention his lanky body dancing with a pig.
The children’s author and three-time Caldecott nominee is notoriously painstaking with his apps and the dedication shows in the intuitiveness and repeat play-ability of “Pigeon Presents… Mo on the Go!” for iOS ($3.99) and Nook ($2.99).
The clever “Draw with Mo” enables kids (or moms who keep grabbing the iPad, ahem) to create a picture “with” Mo; he draws a “Squillem” (scribble) and the kids go to town making it into something recognizable. Or not. It doesn’t matter. What matters is that kids have fun. And then, they can choose to make it into a sticker or store it in a “vault” for safekeeping or printing.
Another fave is “Dance-o-Rama”, with elephant and pig dance combos like Jumbo Gumbo and Piggie Jiggie, with Mo occasionally showing up for a boogie himself.
Your kids may feel the highlight is Leonardo’s “Monster Maker” which gives kids the ability to create a custom-made monster from three interchangeable segments of head, torso and legs.
With great sharing capability and hilarious graphics, “Mo on the Go” is one of those apps that parents can feel quite satisfied in bestowing upon their app-crazy kids, and the amount of entertainment they’ll get out of it totally justifies the slightly higher price. We love ya, Mo. –Shari
