As someone who grew up on Highlights magazine and took everyone opportunity to introduce it to her kids, I was so excited to hear that they were launching a podcast for kids, and from the makers of Wow in the World! I loaded it up on my son’s phone as soon as it launched (since he’s the resident podcast connoisseur in our home), and I’m pleased to say he gives Highlights Hangout a solid two thumbs up.

I do think it skews a little younger than what Drew (my 11-year old) would generally listen to, at least from what I heard, but that didn’t stop him from giving it high praise. The high-energy hosts Tim and Juanita bring lots of the favorite aspects of the magazine to life throughout the 30-minute educational show. From Hidden Sounds, which riffs on their popular “Hidden Pictures,” to kids answering kids’ questions, even Goofus and Gallant, Highlights Hangout feels both familiar and new (like science questions answered by Mindy Thomas and Guy Raz from Wow in the World), all at the same time.

It’s fun, and fast paced, with lots of educational nuggets interspersed that I’m pretty sure will keep kids entertained, especially with summer travel season right at our doorstep.
