Halloween is right around the corner, so we decided to round-up fun Halloween apps for kids that aren’t too scary, all of which happen to be free (yay!). What a fun way to get them excited about Halloween, though if your kids are anything like ours, they’ve been talking about their costume since November of last year.
In Funny Food! app, your preschooler will be able to play memory based games all centered around food. The decor is Halloween-lite, with pumpkins, ghosts and witches with very sweet, happy faces. The games are designed to boost memory and build fine motor skills, but your kid will just think they’re fun. Note that the only in-app purchase is to make it ad-free, for $0.99. (iOS or Android)
The Kids Coloring Halloween app is just your basic coloring app, with Halloween-themed coloring pages. Your child can choose the color they want to use and then drag their finger across the screen to color in the sections on the coloring page. Basic, but fun! (iOS and Android)
In Halloween Dress Up Games, your child picks different zombies and monsters to dress up in Halloween costumes. The art is slightly more creepy, but still nothing too scary. In fact, the background music with accompanying cracks of thunder are the scariest part. Note that the app is free but there are in-app purchases to unlock individual characters or all of them for $1.99. (iOS and Android)
My Family: Trick or Treat Town is a pretend-play app, where you have control over what the cute little vampires and Frankensteins and farmer kids do in this Halloween world. You can tap on the pumpkins to make their faces change, tap on flowers that grow candy, or hang upside down like a bat. You can make an in-app purchase for more content for $2.99. (iOS and Android)
Halloween Costume Party Dress Up is another dress-up game with decidedly cuter characters than the zombie one above. In fact, you can pick from witches, vampires and robots (among others) but they’re all smiling and sweet. You get to customize more options here — from their hats and clothing to their trick-or-treat bag and pet. There’s an in-app purchase to unlock all items for $1.99. (free for iOS, and $0.99 for Android)
