When we first heard about Bluetooth-enabled water bottles back in 2015, we were a little skeptical here at Cool Mom Tech. I mean, how hard is it to just drink a glass of water, right? But when HidrateSpark sent me one of their smart water bottles to try, I thought, why not? If nothing else, it’s a nice water bottle.
So, I gave it a try for a solid week and I have to say that surprisingly… I’m sold.
Also, peeing a lot.

Throughout the day, the HidrateSpark PRO water bottle stores data — up to two days worth — regarding how much water you’re drinking, then relays it via Bluetooth to the HidrateSpark Smart Bottle app (iOS or Android). If you’ve gone a while without drinking, the bottle glows to remind you to take a sip and sends slightly guilt-inducing push notifications to your phone. (“Hey, it’s your kidneys here, drink up!”)
You can also manually add any glass of water you drink, if you’re out and not using your bottle, to make sure your data is accurate. And there are a lot of new features that have been added since this original review, including syncing with your smartwatch or other fitness trackers.
The app also can track your location, which means it works as a “find my water bottle” tool if you ever leave it somewhere. A nice feature, considering the bottle isn’t cheap — and considering how often we all tend to lose water bottles. (Or this that just me?)
And don’t worry, you don’t need to recharge the HidrateSpark, thanks to the long-lasting built-in battery, because I’m pretty sure I’d be bad about doing that too. And since I’ve written this review, it now is vacuum insulated to help keep water to temperature, which is a great improvement. Plus there are tons of colors including a sleek stainless steel, and now both a 17oz and larger 21 oz size.
Now, if you’ve got the self-discipline to drink enough water on your own, you might be rolling your eyes a little. But if you’re like me and tend to grab coffee, tea, or any other beverage over the water your body needs, I have to say that having the accountability of a bottle that reminds me to drink regularly has kept me on top of it in a way that actually benefits my health. So, I’d say it is worth it after all.
You can find the HidrateSpark PRO smart water bottle on Amazon.
I just ordered 2 bottles one for my friend at work. Does anyone know if these are dishwasher safe?
Because this bottle contains electrical circuits in it, it’s probably safe to assume that it is NOT dishwasher safe. The lid might be, but anything containing the electronic parts most likely will not be. (I could be wrong though!)
Our bottle and cap are dishwasher safe, but you will have to remove the sensor stick inside and hand wash it.
The website says that the bottle and lid are dishwasher safe – you just need to remove the sensor stick first. The sensor stick is hand wash only.
Bottle and Lid are Dishwasher Safe
Simply remove the sensor stick from the lid and put the flip lid and bottle in the dishwasher.
*Hand wash the sensor stick.
The sensor is NOT. It says that in the instructions when you get it. I’m excited! Just got mine synched this morning!
Waiting for my shipment it’s been two weeks now
Your bottle will be shipped very soon! We’re sending a shipping update email early next week.
Well some of us can’t have a water bottle with us during the day cause of our jobs. So mine would sit in my locker glowing for 4 hours before I get a break. Waste of money.
So just a waste of money for you!?
That sounds like a personal problem? This is great for those who can use it.
“Some of us can’t have a water bottle”. Better come on a water bottle review and bitch. Holy crap.
This seems really cool. My only concern would be with having to keep my blue tooth on constantly on my phone, causing my battery to drain twice as fast.
Hi Crystal! If your Bluetooth is off, the bottle would still store your water intake data (up to 2 days). You can then sync your water intake once you re-connect with the phone. The glow feature will work without needing to connect with the app.
Is there a way to turn off the Bluetooth for just the water bottle during the day, but leave it on to connect to other devices? My phone battery is draining while plugged in to charge since I got the Hidrate Spark, but I don’t want to completely turn off all other Bluetooth functions.
It says it will keep the info for 2 days so no need to keep your Bluetooth on all day.
Waiting for my shipment. Ordered mid-december! The company said “hopefully I will be in the shipment that goes out in January, if not it could be March!”
Hi Angie! Actually, what we meant was all orders placed before Dec. 30th will be shipped in January. The rest will be shipped between February and March depending on when they came in.
If you ordered in December, your order should have gone out last week and you should definitely have the tracking number! 🙂
How cold does the water stay? I really like my water cold so I absolutely love my vacuum sealed water bottle. I’m nervous to give it up 🙂
Its too expensive for me, or
else I would buy one..I am a creature of not drinking enough water.
I agree it was a little pricy . I never thought I’d spend that much $$ on a water bottle , But I did purchase mines at Target . It was as well worth it. I’ve only had it for 4 days and I LOVE it. I am guilty of one drinking one sometimes bo water at all for days . But since I purchased my bottle I’ve been drinking 40 + ounces for 4 days straight . It’s worth the investment in yourself . You won’t be disappointed
GIVE code does not work – sadly doesn’t say it expires either.. hmmm -:-(
Thanks for letting us know JJ, sometimes codes expire and we’re not informed. We’ll update the post. – Eds
I’ve been interested in this for awhile now and doing my research. I like I the idea but not the price nor that it takes forever to come in.
How well does it track your water when adding ice?
I’ve added ice to mines and it still tracks . I love it.
Can it be filled with Whiskey?
Go in with a friend and split the $15.00 discount. Then you’ll also have a friend to keep “an eye on you” as my tracker states my daughter is doing.
can u use it with out a phone
This is such a stupid article! All you said about the app was it tells you where your water bottle is, who cares? The app also works with the weather app to update the amount of water you need to He drinking. How about the fact the lid and bottle is dishwasher safe? How about the longevity of the battery, how about the fact it’s super simple to get it to work on your phone very easily? What colors do they have?
I mean, seriously, This is the worst product review.

OMG WE DIDN’T TELL YOU THAT THE LID IS DISHWASHER SAFE OR WHAT COLORS IT COMES IN, AND IT’S SUPER HARD TO CLICK OVER TO THE WEBSITE FAQ PAGE TO GET REALLY BASIC INFORMATION LIKE THAT. WHAT WERE WE THINKING, STEVE, BY SIMPLY SUMMARIZING WHAT THE BOTTLE DOES AND HOW IT WORKS? WHAT. WERE. WE. THINKING. Steve, forgive us! Because we can never forgive ourselves! – Eds
